The Butt Blitz is a Canada-wide cigarette butt litter cleanup. Across the nation volunteers work together to raise awareness, pick up littered butts, and send them in for recycling. Last year a total of 223,354 butts were collected. Cigarette butts are highly toxic, especially when they come in contact with water. We want to keep them off the ground and out of the Lake to help protect wildlife and our drinking water.
The Pickering event will be held at Beachfront Park at the South end of Liverpool Road from 11am - 2pm on May 5th, 2018. Pocket ashtrays will be distributed to anyone who wants one. Cleanup supplies and equipment will be provided including bags, gloves, and litter pickers. Please dress for the weather. Anyone under the age of 19 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please register through the link provided above. Anyone under the age of 19 must have guardian consent to participate and anyone under the age of 13 can not participate due to the nature of the cleanup. High school community service hours are available.
A Greener Future is an environmental non-profit that works hand-in-hand with local communities to promote environmental preservation through organized litter cleanups, educational programs, and events. Our expanding family of volunteers are committed to creating a clean, healthy environment that can be sustained for generations.
Our partner TerraCycle Canada recycles all the cigarette butts we pick up. Through their innovative recycling streams they are able to give hard to recycle items a second life.
